Why is my lithium home battery getting extremely hot during charge cycles – Advice from Electriman, North London Electricians

If your home lithium battery is getting extremely hot during charging, this is not something to dismiss as normal. All lithium batteries generate some warmth during a charge cycle, but extreme or uncomfortable heat is a warning sign that something is wrong.
The most likely causes in plain terms are:
1. The battery management system, which is the electronic brain that controls how your battery charges and discharges, may have developed a fault.
2. The charger or inverter connected to your battery may not be properly matched to it, causing it to push in too much power too quickly.
3. The battery cells inside the unit may be aging or damaged, making them far less efficient and causing them to generate excess heat.
4. The battery is installed somewhere with poor ventilation, so heat that is normally released into the air has nowhere to go.
5. There may be a loose or corroded connection in the wiring between the battery and the rest of your system, creating electrical resistance that turns into heat.
What you can safely check yourself:
First, look at where the battery is installed. Is it in a cupboard, a confined space, or somewhere it gets direct sunlight or warmth from a boiler? Poor airflow or added heat from the environment makes the problem worse.
Second, check whether the battery feels uniformly warm all over, or very hot in one particular spot. A hot spot is a stronger indicator of an internal fault.
Third, look for an
