Finding water inside your consumer unit (fuse box) is a serious issue that must be treated as an emergency. Electricity and water are a dangerous combination and can cause **electric shock, fire, or damage to your wiring**.

### Most Common Causes

- **Condensation on metal tails** — The thick cables (meter tails) entering your consumer unit from the electricity meter are often uninsulated metal. In cold weather, warm moist air inside the cupboard or hallway can condense on the cold metal and drip into the unit.
